Why the Hell Are England Trying So Hard to Keep Scotland?

Why not just let them go?

It would save England a fortune in subsidies according to multiple independent sources. Then they could spend that money on making things more equitable in the North of England.

As for Scotland they have a long history of entrepreneurs, inventors and scientists. They could do great alone without Whitehall. If they did the exact opposite of what the SNP are saying they will do. Which is spend, spend, spend, and I’m not talking about the musical about Vivian Nicholson, although Nicola would make a good Viv. The people at Holyrood must have skipped economics class. Spoiler alert, you can’t spend 50% more than you take in. Oil is done, tourism is hobbled, and the world’s best whisky is now Japanese!

If Scotland was to do the opposite of what the SNP profess and instead of taxing people straight into England, (Ask France how their tax hike worked?) they had very low taxes instead. Then they could attract business and jobs from around the world. Like Ireland but with even less taxes and less red tape that lets them compete with emerging economies not the crumbling dregs of Europe. It could be an internet based economy so they are not relying on exports to England or the EU who might add punitive taxes to exported goods in response to…
