“This “Muppet” behind me just spent $200 on The Golf Channel for a swing aid he thinks will cure his 40-year slice. Meanwhile, he doesn’t wanna pay me 50 bucks for a real golf lesson!”

This simple ad is very unusual because while most social media posts produce nothing, this one works. It has sold a lot of books when posted in golf groups on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Why?

Well, if you are not a golfer or, better still, a golf professional, you won’t get it, but if you are, this hits home in a very emotional way. It stands out because it’s satirical, even rude, in a very conservative market, and that’s why it works!

It’s funny, but it’s real.

It connects emotionally with the right market and will mean nothing to anyone else. Far too many people try to make their ads appeal to everyone, which makes them less appealing to their real market.
