For decades, the West has played a dangerous game of “kick the can” when it comes to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. We’ve witnessed diplomatic efforts, sanctions, negotiations, and even periods of outright standoffs. Yet, through it all, the core issue remains: Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons is not just a threat to the region but to global security. The international community has repeatedly delayed decisive action, preferring to contain the problem rather than solve it. We must ask ourselves: can we afford to kick the can any longer?

The Urgency of Now

Iran has made significant strides in its nuclear program. Reports suggest that Tehran has stockpiled enriched uranium far beyond the limits set by the now-defunct 2015 nuclear agreement. Even more alarming, the country has developed advanced centrifuges capable of accelerating uranium enrichment, bringing it closer to weapons-grade levels. While it is true that Iran has not officially crossed the threshold of becoming a nuclear-armed state, it is inching dangerously close. The current geopolitical landscape presents an unprecedented opportunity to halt Iran’s progress before it’s too late.
