The UK’s Extortion Bridge — The Dartford Crossing

The Dartford Crossing is a major toll bridge over the Thames River and your most likely route south to Dover and Europe. It's also the UK Governments first foray into Mafia like extortion techniques to raise revenue.

Since they did away with physical toll booths in favor of a pay online system in 2014, three and a half million people have failed to pay the DART CHARGE (toll.)

To any rational person, that number of law breakers would suggest there is something sadly wrong with the system. But not the UK government's Dartford Mafia. They go on extorting fees, and wasting the valuable time of hundreds of thousands of innocent motorists a year, many of whom tried to pay the 2.50 toll!

Sometime in 2014, the physical toll booths on the Dartford crossing where replaced by an electronic system whereby you had to go online and pay within 24 hours. Call me stupid, but I thought they must have just removed the toll booths because the bridge was paid for as they did with all the toll bridges in Scotland. I was wrong.
