The Price of Justice and Your US Taxes Dollars at Work

During my epic round America trip in June and July, I covered 10,657 miles in my little Red Corvette before going back to England. Shockingly I only got one speeding ticket, 93 mph in a 65 mph. Now having owned several Ferrari’s, Porsches, and an Aston Martin I must admit I am no stranger to blue lights in my rearview mirror. All I can say in my defense is I have never in 40 years of driving ever got a ticket in a built-up area. If it says 30 mph I drive 30. But on the open road as indeed this one was, well that’s another matter. This is not a debate about the merits of adhering to the speed limits rather it’s a debate about government waste.

Meanwhile back in Moffat County, Colorado, I’m on a deserted highway and come over the brow of a hill at the same time as a Colorado trooper going the other way. My radar detector goes off just a few seconds before his blue lights go on. I thought about flooring it since he was out of sight and had to turn around, but good sense prevailed, and I waited for the inevitable.

The officer was very polite and professional, I got the usual lecture, a 10-minute wait and a ticket. A ticket stating, I had to show up in court on September 10th. I told him that I lived in England and would not be making the court date. He said take it up with the court, but not for at least a week or ten days as…
