The One Question that Will Save You A Small Fortune!
Here is one simple strategy I use that has saved me countless thousands of dollars, pounds, and euros every year in an amazing array of business transactions big and small.
Let me give you an example.
Frequently I travel on interstate highways and drive until tired, getting off at the next exit. I will survey the options, pick the best of the brands available, and walk in to ask if they have any rooms — which you can usually determine in advance by looking at the parking lot or at how many lights are on.
I will ask the desk clerk what the cost of a room is. No matter what the cost when she replies, I will pause for a few seconds as if thinking about it, look pensive, and simply say;
“Is that the best you can do?”
There is almost no chance I am going to walk back out to my car to save twenty or thirty dollars by driving to the next hotel, but nine times out of ten, the clerk will ask if you have AAA affiliation or AARP or a frequent hotel card, really just looking for an excuse to give you the discount they think you need to do business with them.
I usually don’t but simply say, “Can you give me the corporate rate?” or depending on the situation, “Is that the best you can do?” again.
