In every article on the best Super Bowl ads ever, this ad is ranked number one, although I like Mean Joe Green’s Coke ad better. The Apple ad titled “1984” is widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential commercials in advertising history. Directed by renowned filmmaker Ridley Scott, the ad aired during Super Bowl XVIII on January 22, 1984. Here’s a detailed overview:

The ad is set in a dystopian, Orwellian world inspired by George Orwell’s novel “1984.” The commercial opens with a bleak, grayscale scene of drones marching in unison toward a large screen where a Big Brother-like figure delivers a propaganda speech to an audience of people who appear subdued and controlled.

Suddenly, a young woman wearing a vibrant red tank top and white shorts races through the crowd, pursued by helmeted police officers. She carries a sledgehammer, evoking the iconic imagery of rebellion. As she runs, pursued by the officers, she approaches the massive screen where Big Brother is speaking.
