The Fantasy of a Two-State Solution
Trump’s shock announcement that the US will take over Gaza has led to widespread condemnation from other countries, all of whom still cling to an outdated political fantasy that is no longer reality on the ground.
For decades, diplomats, world leaders, and peace activists have clung to the idea of a two-state solution. In this vision, Israel and a sovereign Palestine coexist peacefully, side by side. It’s a beautiful idea, one that has been the backbone of countless summits, negotiations, and hopeful declarations from Washington to the United Nations.
Yet, as we look at the reality on the ground, the notion of two independent states living in harmony has drifted from political possibility to pure fantasy. The world keeps chasing a mirage, while the desert beneath our feet tells a very different story.
The Map Has Already Been Redrawn
To believe in a two-state solution, one must believe in borders that no longer exist. The West Bank and East Jerusalem, once considered the heart of a future Palestinian state, are now home to over 700,000 Israeli settlers. Cities have risen, highways snake through the hills, and security checkpoints carve the land into fragmented pieces.
