“I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” — Albert Einstein

The period following World War II has been termed the “Long Peace,” a time marked by the absence of major global conflicts directly involving the superpowers of the era. Lasting from 1945 to the early 1990s, this era defied the predictions of continuous warfare that many anticipated in the aftermath of the devastating world wars. This article explores the key factors that contributed to the Long Peace, its implications, and how it shaped the geopolitics of the time.

The Aftermath of World War II:

The devastation caused by World War II prompted a reevaluation of international relations. The global community recognized the need for a new approach to prevent the recurrence of such catastrophic conflicts. The United Nations was established in 1945 with the aim of fostering international cooperation, promoting peace, and preventing future wars.

I should note that the “Long Peace” did not mean peace everywhere; it was just not a global conflict. There have been numerous regional wars during this time.
