The Boomerang Principle: Be Nice to People!
While I don’t believe in any particular religion, I do believe the universal law of what goes around comes around (the boomerang principle). If you treat people right, something will come back to you in kind, some way, some day. Even if that is a statement is not a scientific fact, like most things if you focus on them you can make yourself believe it is true. If that influences your actions, the world will be a better place.
Manners 101
If you listen to many older people talk, you hear them say how people today seem to have no manners — and, you know, maybe they have a point. While I occasionally scoop peas onto my fork or put my elbows on the dinner table, I do make a strong point of at least saying thank you to everyone at appropriate times. I do this to everyone: waiters, gas station attendants, store clerks and absolutely everyone I come into contact with who does anything for me. I hold doors open for people, help them pick up things they drop, and generally try to show good manners at all times. It costs nothing to be polite, and over time it is noticed and applauded by others.
Being polite is so simple and cost effective, yet I am amazed by how few people are, including some of my own friends. I often have to say please or thank you on their behalf when they say to a waitress “Give me this” or “I want that”…
