Top-selling fiction writers like Stephen King are masters of storytelling. You can learn a great deal about how to improve your sales stories by using the same secret techniques they use to draw readers into their stories!

There are numerous techniques you can use to “zone in” your prospect on a subject, feeling, or place that will aid you in getting them involved in your sales pitch. Obviously these will vary based on your product or service, but following are a few examples.

Dates

Do you remember:

• The day man landed on the moon?

• The day the Berlin Wall came down?

• Where you were on 9/11?

• The day you bought your first car?

Each of these events has very special meaning depending on your age. Few people old enough to remember forget where they where when they heard about each of these events! It zones people into a specific time, a feeling that can be shared by everyone.

This concept can be used simply by talking about the most recent sports event Sunday afternoon, something in the news, or something going on in your industry. Just make sure you can relate it back to the sale!
