Soccer’s First Superstar

Before Ranaldo, Messi, or Maradona, there were only two players considered the greatest ever: Pele and George Best. It was a different game in the sixties and early seventies, but no one who ever saw his magic feet destroy the world’s best defenses would ever doubt that for a while, no one in the could claim to be a better player than George Best. Pele even presented Best with a football inscribed with the words “From the world’s second-best player.”

George Best was a Northern Irish professional footballer who was widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He was born on May 22, 1946, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Despite growing up in poverty, Best showed a remarkable talent for football from a young age. He joined the local team, Cregagh Boys Club, at the age of 15, and it was soon apparent that he had a rare gift for the sport.

Best signed with Manchester United in 1963, when he was just 17 years old. He quickly became a fan favorite and was known for his skill, speed, and creativity on the field. He was a key player in the team’s success, helping them win the Football League First Division…
