Should You Trust Your Parents, Teachers, or Preachers?
Parents are supposed to look out for you, to love and protect you, so why do they lie to you so dam much?
They don’t just lie but go to extreme lengths to protect their lies with props, rituals, and gifts. The Easter Bunny, Father Christmas, and the Tooth Fairy are obvious choices. Then there is whatever religion they choose to peddle to you; I mean, if they are Jewish parents, it’s a pretty good bet you won’t be studying the Koran anytime soon or vice versa. If they are Christin’s parents, they will state as fact that Jesus was born to a virgin mother, yet they may also tell you there is no such thing as ghosts or UFOs. But, of course, the realization that whatever religion is thrust upon you is, in fact, hocus pocus usually doesn’t occur to you until you leave home. The rest of the lies are uncovered as the truth hits you in waves at age seven, eight, or nine. One lie after another being pealed back like a rotten onion as you grow.
There are whoppers, and then there are the little white lies like when they tell you the picture you brought home from school is beautiful. You don’t stink at soccer, or that noise you are making on the guitar really does sound like music.
