San Francisco: A City in Crisis
After my recent visit, things seem a little better than last year. Once hailed as the crown jewel of the West Coast, San Francisco is facing a crisis that has left many asking, “What went wrong?” From soaring housing costs to a visible homelessness epidemic, the city is grappling with a complex web of social, economic, and political challenges that have steadily escalated over the years. On my recent visit to the town, I was shocked and saddened to see how bad things had become. In the morning, I saw more bat-shit-crazy people wandering the streets than I had ever seen in my life.
The Heart of the Crisis: Homelessness
Perhaps the most visible sign of San Francisco’s struggles is its homelessness crisis. Walking through the city, it’s hard to ignore the tents lining sidewalks, people sleeping in doorways, and the stark reality of human suffering in plain sight. San Francisco’s homelessness rate is among the highest in the nation, and it’s not just the numbers that are alarming — it’s the depth of the crisis.
