In Praise of America & Americans, Because, Nobody Else Will!
November 26th, 1980, the day before Thanksgiving that year, I flew from Glasgow airport, in Scotland, where I had gone up from Shropshire, to see my parents before leaving, on my trip to Washington, Dulles. The trip was my 18th birthday present, it is still the best flight I have ever taken. I was there about 15 minutes before I decided I was not going back home.
Most of the World Hates America
It’s sad so much of the world hates America. Because if they really knew Americans they would not, they could not. Whether their excuse is Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, three unpopular wars, mass shootings, questionable foreign policy decisions, archaic laws on booze, nudity, and gambling doesn’t really matter. Yes, there is much to improve in our social and political leadership as there is everywhere in the world today. But other than the occasional obnoxious American tourist who yells louder at the Spanish desk clerk in the hope he will understand English, the America people are wonderful people. Far more generous with their time, hospitality and money than anywhere I have ever been and that includes 51 countries.
