How to Instantly Bond with Every Norwegian You Meet!
When I was about 13 and started reading a book a week I read a book called Underwater Saboteur. It’s the fascinating story of Max Manus the original frogman who dove into the freezing harbors around Oslo to attach limpet mines to German destroyers. Several years ago I met a Norwegian playing golf in Portugal and mentioned Max. He was shocked that I knew of him but very happy and eagerly added details about his story which I listened to avidly.
Every time since and there have been many playing golf in Scotland, Spain, and Portugal including this year at the bar at Prince’s in England, when I meet people from Norway I mention Max. This year my delighted companion was actually from his home town and told of the statute the had recently erected to him.
A little interest in other people’s countries and countrymen goes a long way to building instant rapport and making new friends. Try it, even works with French and Germans :)
