How to Get Hired Fast!

It really is easier to make it big than to fail in life. The reason is because there is much more competition at the bottom than at the top. For example, on any given job interview, only 5 percent of the people actually stand any chance of getting the job.

Sixty percent will be disqualified by their lack of qualifications or by a poorly written résumé. That leaves just 40 percent to deal with. Of the 40 percent:

· Ten percent will not hit it off with the interviewer.

· Ten percent will not take the job because their spouse does not want to move to another area or take the job.

· Ten percent will not take the job because of kids, grandparents, or other family considerations.

· Three percent will have some kind of black mark against them in their past: a reference that doesn’t check out, a suspected drug or alcohol problem, and so on.

· Two percent will have some form of physical problem that will work against them with the interviewer: a nervous twitch, a heart condition, and so on. That leaves just 5 percent with any chance whatsoever.

Many of the 5 percent who make it to the final interview will, because of time or some other problem, be ill prepared for the interview. A friend of mine just applied for the city manager’s job in a large city. He was…
