Five Sense Marketing

In other posts I’ve talked about the power of creating an experience for your customers, something that makes them go WOW!

Let’s look at some of the complicated ways in which customers can be subtly influenced either positively or negatively about your business.

As you read, think about the ways in which you as a customer are influenced by these factors and how they effect your opinions.

There are basically 5 key ways that a customer is influenced:

  • sight
  • sound
  • scent
  • taste
  • touch

Does your business look high end, professional, cozy, cheap, clinical, warm, friendly, new, old, tired, futuristic, retro, or drab?

What colors do you use on your walls, floors, windows, and trucks? Cold blues, warm reds, earthy browns, hot pinks? What message do the colors you use in your business send out to your customers?

Are they “in” colors? (Look at this year’s hot cars or fashions for whatever colors are hot!) Are yours hot or are they passé and telling your customers that you’re behind the times?

How does your business sound? Does it sound silent, quiet, noisy, upbeat, dead?
