Embracing The Life-Enhancing Power of Rituals and Traditions
Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” — ARISTOTLE
Creating your own rituals and traditions can greatly enhance your life while cementing and renewing the bonds of friendship. For some it may be the traditional family gettogether at Thanksgiving or Christmas.
For me, it’s my annual trips. My older friendships go back 40 years and for most of them, my friend Michael Steventon and I have managed to escape somewhere, including Spain, Portugal, France and Morocco, for a five-day golf junket. We also hook up at least once a year for dinner with our mutual childhood friends Mike Jones, Nick Stanton and Shaun Ball. Considering I live 3000 miles away, this is not always easy, but it always gets done and so the friendship, camaraderie and shared memories have endured and added countless weeks of joy to my life.
For the last 20 years, my friends Terry Coffield and Dr. Mike Devito meet each Memorial Day weekend on the hallowed grounds of Pine Valley Golf Club, along with a rotating group of five other lucky people along for the ride.
