In Boston alone, over 30% of the city’s restaurants will never reopen. The number of hotels and pubs that close may be higher. The massive increase in online shopping with Amazon, in particular, will kill off the UK high street and the US malls quicker than anyone ever imagined putting hundreds of thousands of people out of work. The work-from-home decree has already teed up the next big financial crisis, the coming meltdown in office space rentals. It might even be bigger than the 2008 mortgage debacle.
