40 years ago on, March 6th 1984, was the start of a violent year long strike that changed Britain lead by this man.

In the heart of Yorkshire's coal mines, where the air was thick with grit, and the ground trembled beneath the weight of industrial toil, a young Arthur Scargill emerged as a stalwart champion of workers' rights. Born on January 11, 1938, in the mining town of Worsbrough Dale, near Barnsley, Scargill's early years were steeped in the harsh realities of the working class.

Scargill’s ascent in the trade union movement was rapid, a testament to his unwavering commitment. By 1973, he had assumed the presidency of the Yorkshire Area of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM). His charisma and dedication propelled him further, leading to his election as the National President of the NUM in 1981.

The defining moment of Scargill's career came during the UK miners' strike of 1984-1985, a seismic clash triggered by government plans to shutter coal mines.
